Reading Responses Reading Response 1: Blogs, Blogging, and the Blogger

17 Sep

In Rebecca Blood’s blog ( Weblog Ethics) she discusses the many aspects of what is considered a reliable blog, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of weblogs. Rebecca states in her entry ” An audience is passive; a public is participatory. We need a definition of media that is public in its orientation. –From “A history”.  In other words, why do we need media that is public in its orientation? Reasons that I came up with were to get the public’s opinion and to hear their feedback on the topic being addressed. When we send out messages such as advertisers do, they do so in a manner to get their messages across clearly and understandably with permission of hearing back on what the audience thinks.  Mass media seeks above all, to gain a wide audience. A disadvantage when it comes to webbloggers is that they do not think in terms of control, power, and influence, in which this case mass media does. Mass media want’s to gain attention to the whole audience whereas webloggers just want to get the  interest of the audience whose topic meets the same shared beliefs of the people who may be interested in the blog. In Suzanne Stefanac Blogs as Clubhouses she too makes a statement in which she states that by being a blogger you can have so many connections with other people who support and value the same shared beliefs.  ” They are authored by individuals with an honest love of their topics and who take delight in cultivating both their topic areas and their audiences.”   Like Rebecca Blood stated earlier in her Weblog Ethics ” Weblogs are the mavericks of the online world.”  By blogging, you have the freedom to express your thoughts in so many ways, which makes it that more accessible for everyone to use.

“My life was a wanderin…

“My life was a wandering; I never had a homeland. It was a matter of being constantly tossed about, without rest; nowhere and never did I find a home.”

― Jan Amos Komenský,

one issue that has always been to my concern was the numerous amount of homeless people there are around the world. Questions that always arise to me when I spot them are “I wonder what his/her life was before it all went down hill from there?” “What do they do everyday to survive?” “How is that they can not find help?” Especially when I see young homeless people who strikes me even more because most of them are my age. It’s not to late for them to start over or is it? “How hard is it for them to look for shelter?” A part of me feels sympathy for them but another part of me feels as if it’ their fault in a way. As if they brought it on themselves to live in a life of misery. Even though I don’t know what it’s like to live the life they live everyday I can only imagine how much pain and suffering they must go through to survive. One thing that makes me feel better is by helping them. Whether it’s working at soup kitchens for example. Knowing that I can help provide food for them makes a difference. Now till I am much older, one of my past times will be to help with the homeless and do as much as I can to make everyday a bit easier for them.

I believe that this will be the topic I will write about in project 1.  This is a topic that has always been to my interest and concern since I was very young and I’ve always tried doing my best in participating and being more involved in community services to help with the homeless. This is a very hard topic to write about because there are many aspects that go into play while dealing with this issue that affects everyone in communities worldwide. I feel as if there is a lot to address here and a lot that hasn’t really been done by our government into making more shelters for the homeless. I feel that this is a very challenging topic and since it’s something that I’ve been interested for such a long duration, that I will invest a lot of my time into solving this matter .

I hope that with this blog I can achieve many goals. I hope  I can get people’s attention and to get them more involved with this issue since it hasn’t been known as a major issue till now. I hope that with my knowledge of this subject that I can have people help make a difference each day, whether it’s working at shelters, soup kitchens, or cleaning up the environment to make it a safe and cleaner place. The more help they get, the more I feel as if this issue will be taken more seriously. I feel as if my goals are manageable and appropriate, realistic however.. realistic in that I can make having shelters for the homeless accessible within a certain time frame, no. Everything takes time, and since this has been a problem for so long, I believe that it will continue to be a work in progress. So is it realistic? Yes and No.

my audience ranges from young adults to middle-aged adults. The audiences would be people from Detroit, Tucson, New Orleans, and San Diego. They have strong values and beliefs that people are equal no matter the race, gender, or religion they come from. By having them follow my blog, I will post daily topics on how to help spread the word so more people can be involved, I will post daily quotes of encouragement so that they can still have high hopes on this cause and I will post my thoughts and have them write feedback so I know what I should focus more on, and what I should focus less on. I believe I can grasp anyone’s attention . Not to sound conceited, but when it comes to persuasion, that’s my second language so I shouldn’t have any problems with that.

My voice is loud and I am a very outspoken person, and I feel as I can get right to the point and have people follow along with me without being bored and losing interest right away. I am really up to date with the media world and I am not embarrassed to share my thoughts with anyone. I can use Facebook, Twitter,Instagram,Blogs, to  get my point across. The whole point of this advertisement ordeal is being able to know how to use it, get feedback, and learn from your mistakes.

Travel

13 Sep

Who likes to travel? Who likes taking long vacations to destinations of your choice? I for sure do as many of you would agree… at least I hope so. In the flying world of airplanes, it feels as if you are not even in an airplane. It’s a whole new era of flying. It’s not how it used to be and it changed and keeps on changing dramatically. There are now seats where it can turn into beds, they have luxury seating where you can feel as if you’re in a bar, they are now trying to make a triple-decker plane. I can keep going but I’ll stop at that and continue a new discussion in the airline industries. One article that I came across in the NY Times was about airlines traveling south for a reasonable budget. ” With JetBlue now flying as far south as Colombia and Spirit offering service to Peru. Even Southwest has expanded overseas by buying AirTran Airways, which flies to Mexico and half a dozen Caribbean countries.”  “They see a void in the market, and they feel they can fill it,” said Henry Harteveldt, travel analyst and co-founder of Atmosphere Research Group.” With the economy that we live in today  which makes it hard to travel, it’s reassuring to know that changes are being established and that traveling can come with its benefits.

Yes I love to travel, but this topic is the least of my concerns right now, so to be honest I may not go as in-depth as my other two subjects. In the airline industries things change rapidly all the time. I picked this topic because with this year especially, we haven’t had the best of luck with finances . So when I read the article in the NY Times about low-budget airlines traveling south, I know that it would be an interest to many people who could use a vacation for a reasonable price.

My aim for this blog is keep people up to date on traveling. Let them know what good deals are out, how to travel for a reasonable price, and how to find reasonably priced hotels. I feel that my goals are realistic manageable and appropriate for this assignment.

I would like this to target people in their early 20’s to their late 60’s. Perfect age group for college kids to have a fun spring break to people in their 60’s looking for a relaxing way to spend their retirement days. My audience group will be the targets of the east and west coast. I feel as if this topic  is resourceful . I  know for a fact that  the majority of people love to travel. This blog gives all the benefits of traveling in an easy way for an easy budget. This will make everyone spread the word which would in fact help the market in airline industries.

My goal for this blog is to have people talking about. That’s it. Knowing that they are spreading the word and making more people aware does it for me. I’ll feel relieved that I am doing something right

Bullying is not okay. Period.

13 Sep

Bullying has always been a problem worldwide, but it seems to me that this year as been the worst of the bullying culmination. Take for instance the Rutgers freshman who committed suicide after his roommate broadcasted his gay sexual encounter online. This story made headline news for weeks and depicted a very serious case of bullying. Bullying can cause death and I believe who ever causes the death is completely responsible for their actions among the person they hurt. How does bullying happen? Why do people bully? I sure don’t know but what I believe is that bullying results from how you were raised. I am not necessarily saying your parents or your siblings result in the way you act but I believe that some part of their actions and  how they choose to raise you reflect on you as a person. Lets face it, how we were brought up shapes who we are . If your family is abusive either emotionally or physically, or if they are absent in your life but are physical there, that can have an enormous impact on yourself which causes you to act out. You  may feel alone and not have much control on your relationships at home, but when you’re in a different environment you may feel as if you have the control and power.  Truth is by being a different person in a negative way,  you end up hurting others. Just because they don’t know what you go through, could go both ways for the other person. In all, I believe that bullying stems out from making your own environment in which you make the rules while others get hurt by it.

This was a tie for project 1 with the homeless. I feel as if I have more knowledge on my first choice that writing about this topic would be kind of hard. Although I do want to research more on bullying and how it’s increased 10 years from now, I feel as if so many aspects go into researching this topic that it would be immensely difficult. I feel psychology for one would go into play with this topic, and I for one am not a reliable source in that field. With that being said it’s an interesting topic but not one that I want to focus on at the moment.

My goals for this blog is to hear more stories about bullying. Whether its people who want to confront to me about their experiences or even the victim who want’s to confront to bullying. I feel as if my goals are manageable, appropriate and somewhat realistic. When I am voicing out my opinion in this issue  I am being careful in not saying “This is why Bullying happens” because I don’t know the answers to any bullying question, I voice out by saying ” in my opinion” knowing that I may be right or wrong and I am eager to listening to other people’s insights on why they think people bully others.

I would like my audience to range from middle schoolers all the way to college students. I would like to target my audiences mostly to the east coast and I would want their values and beliefs to be different from one another. Meaning some can be open to other people and others to be more self-centered . I feel with the stories and people’s experiences ranging from young kids to young adults can spark a lot of awareness into this matter.  I hope I can accomplish more awareness and credibility from others since I really want to hear in-depth stories of situations that might not even be appropriate. I really want  gain people’s trust, that being said is my number one goal.

I might face ridicule, harassment, or I might face bravery. It’s a win – lose situation but that’s what challenges are for. For this one I am worried of what people might say in regards to what I write and I may be feel scared having someone open up because I don’t know what to expect from their experiences.
